Mark Preston (Tenna-Tsa-The) Master of the Copper
was born in Dawson City, Yukon Territory
Mark is of Tlingit and Irish ancestry presently living in Vancouver
B.C. He first learned of his Tlingit ancestry through research in
libraries
and through his family. His first lessons in art were through European
masters such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo,
however, he discovered other masters from first nations artists
like; Bill Reid, Robert Davidson, Roy Henry Vickers and Charles
Edenshaw.
About his art Mark states, "When I think about what art is,
it is more than illustration or objects to be doted over.
Art is the magic, the glue that binds and brings us together.
It is the language that transcends its forms. Art gives us reason
to think, ponder and speak our minds."
